Bringing Hope and Help in the Midst of COVID-19 in Hillsdale With Bob Evans

Apr 18, 2020

Hundreds of appreciative families visited The Salvation Army of Hillsdale on April 14 as it distributed a food donation from Bob Evans. The effort started with Bob Evans contacting the Hillsdale Corps Community Center with the idea of delivering half a semi truck’s worth of food. After a bit of communication, it turned into a fully loaded semi truck, and due to the generosity of Bob Evans, over 500 families in need and community partners in Hillsdale received boxes of food with staples like eggs and mashed potatoes.

“This was an amazing community effort,” said Captain Cassondra Grey. “We could not have done this work without our incredible volunteers from all walks of life. Volunteers came from the local hospital, Coldwell Banker, and Hillsdale College.”

Two representatives from Bob Evans who came to help that day got to see first hand how the food distribution became an outpouring of generosity and thankfulness, with families picking up food for themselves and for family and friends who were not able to travel to the Corps for various reasons. Though COVID-19 continues to cause hardship, Captain Grey said the distribution was a great opportunity for the community to come together.

“Everyone is struggling. We need to band together and pour out love and support for our neighbors. That’s what being the hands and feet of Jesus means: taking care of each other.
