Bringing Hope and Help in the Midst of COVID-19 to Southgate

Apr 30, 2020

A few weeks ago, The Salvation Army Wyandotte Corps Community Center was contacted by Sam’s Club in Southgate to come support their curbside testing site. People can come to the site and use a self-administered nasal swab test while staying in their vehicles. Trained medical volunteers will ensure the sample is taken correctly. In our collective fight to slow the spread of COVID-19, testing sites like this are essential.

Since April 15, Majors Brian and Heidi Reed have provided lunch and snacks daily to the healthcare personnel conducting COVID-19 tests and to the sheriff’s department staff on site. Occasionally, two of the Reed’s daughters will also come and help.

“The Wyandotte Corps will continue to serve meals to medical workers until May 13th, a total of 28 days,” said Major Brian Reed, an officer of the Wyandotte Corps Community Center. “Everyone has shown their appreciation for The Salvation Army’s presence.”

The testing site is supported by Walmart and Quest Diagnostics. The Salvation Army of Wyandotte is honored to come alongside them in promoting safety and health in the community. We would love for community members to join our efforts through a donation.
