Celebrating National Volunteer Week: Sandy
Tell us about yourself.
I’m a Certified Public Accountant, and I go to Northridge Church. My friends from church and I enjoy volunteering together.
What has it been like to help The Salvation Army during the COVID-19 pandemic?
It’s an opportunity to do something good. I’m fortunate to have a job with flexible hours. With The Salvation Army, I get to do something tangible. I see the lines of people at food banks, and I can tell the need is great. I try to help out where I can. Working in the warehouse is a good reminder that people need the basics right now.
Why do you volunteer for The Salvation Army?
I believe in the mission of The Salvation Army. With all that’s going on, it’s hard to find a place to volunteer, so I jumped at this opportunity. The Salvation Army is there to help people and share the gospel, and the organization serves the way Jesus would want us to serve. That is amazing to me.
How do you feel after volunteering?
I feel great. It’s a lot of work, but it feels good. I’m not a doctor or nurse, but this is a way I can be on the front lines.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about volunteering for The Salvation Army?
Each person needs to evaluate their own situation. If you can’t be around other people for health reasons, that’s fine, but if you have the opportunity to get involved, there is no better reward than knowing you’re helping other people.
Sandy volunteers to offer relief to so many during these trying times. Thank you for your support! We cannot do this alone. We invite you to find our more if you are interested in volunteering with us.
