Celebrating National Volunteer Week: Tanya
Tell us about yourself.
I’m a teacher at the Creative Montessori Academy in Southgate.
What has it been like to help The Salvation Army during the COVID-19 pandemic?
It’s been really rewarding. There’s a lot of need right now, and a lot of people can’t volunteer for different reasons. I like being involved in something that does good work in the community; it feels good to be able to help out at a time like this.
Why do you volunteer for The Salvation Army?
My daughter and I volunteer for The Salvation Army because we see a need and we know we are able to help. We are both healthy, and we have not travelled. After taking a risk assessment, we knew volunteering was the right thing to do. The Salvation Army facilitates this perfectly by focusing on helping people and taking necessary precautions during COVID-19. I felt confident with the precautions that were taken at the volunteer site.
How do you feel after volunteering with us?
I feel rewarded by volunteering for The Salvation Army because so much need is out there, and not everyone is able to help. I'm glad I can.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about volunteering for The Salvation Army?
For someone thinking about volunteering for The Salvation Army, I would say: Use common sense! First, make sure that you do not put yourself or others at risk. Then, get involved if you can. So many people in your community need help now and will continue to need help after the state of emergency has been lifted, so get involved if you are able.
Tanya and her daughter volunteer to offer relief to so many during these trying times. Thank you for your support! We cannot do this alone. We invite you to find our more if you are interested in volunteering with us.
