Christmas in July Meets the Need Beyond the Holidays
The Salvation Army of Traverse City knows that Needs Know No Season. That’s why in 2016 they launched their Christmas in July campaign to feed, assist, and meet the critical and emergency needs of their neighbors in need beyond the holidays.
“Our major presence in the community has always been during the holiday season,” said Ruth Blick, Director of Community Resource Development. “Yet our programs and services continue year-round.”
This year, the need is even more critical. Inflation has raised the cost of necessities beyond what many can afford, and gas prices are stretching the limits of maintaining everyday needs. The Christmas in July Red Kettle Campaign provides funds to allow The Salvation Army Traverse City to serve those who are lost, hungry, and hurting every day of the year.
“Christmas in July is a fun way to engage volunteers, and community partners and raise critical funds during a normally slow donation time,” said Blick. “Lathering on sunscreen instead of layers of clothing to spread joy and give the gift of help, hope and compassion is priceless!”
The community was invited to ‘Love Beyond’, hunger, homelessness, and crisis by participating in the Christmas in July Red Kettle Campaign, July 22 & 23. The goal was to raise $10,000 where 100% of donations collected stay local, for local programs, to help local individuals and families.
