Donations to The Salvation Army Will Be Doubled For The Next Ten Days
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (Dec. 19, 2019) — Starting Friday, Dec. 20 through Tuesday, Dec. 31, all donations up to nearly $500,000 that are made to The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit will be doubled and fully matched, dollar-for-dollar, thanks to The Consortium of Hope. For example, a $1 donation turns into $2, $5 into $10, $50 into $100, etc.
The Consortium of Hope is a group of local community leaders and businesses who join forces every year to help The Salvation Army reach its fundraising goal. This year, the nonprofit hopes to raise $8 million to continue to feed and shelter the people in southeast Michigan who need it the most.
Even though many of the iconic red kettles will be off the streets by Christmas Eve, there are still plenty of opportunities for supporters to donate to the nonprofit organization. Cash or Kettle pay donations will be accepted in-person at hundreds of storefront kettles throughout the remainder of the Red Kettle Campaign. Donations can also be made by:
- Visiting salmich.org
- Calling 877-SAL-MICH
- Sending a check made payable to The Salvation Army, to: 16130 Northland Dr., Southfield, MI 48075
Contributions made during The Salvation Army’s 2019 Red Kettle Campaign are tax-deductible, and all donations benefit local families and individuals in the communities they are given.
“This week and a half is so important for us,” said Major Timothy Meyer, general secretary and metro Detroit area commander for The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division. “We set the $8 million fundraising goal so we can continue feeding and sheltering thousands of metro Detroiters for the remainder of this year and next, and we certainly could not meet that goal without the tremendous support from the outstanding people in our area. Additionally, we also use those funds to continue providing services such as youth and senior programs, anti-human trafficking efforts, emergency disaster services and much more – so every donation, no matter the amount, makes a major difference in the lives of thousands of people in metro Detroit.”
