Gladys at Wayne Westland Salvation Army Gladys has dedicated over 32 years to The Salvation Army, currently serving as a case manager in The Salvation Army Wayne-Westland Corps Community Center. Her work primarily involves managing a food pantry, providing essential services such as assistance with utility shutoffs and rent when funding allows. The need in her community is significant, with increasing numbers of families seeking help, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic led to job losses. Gladys noted, “This year is the hardest year we’ve had,” as they faced a record number of families—344—coming for assistance during the Christmas season alone. The Salvation Army’s services, including food distribution and transitional housing support, are crucial for those in dire situations, such as fire victims and families experiencing domestic violence. Gladys emphasized the importance of funding, stating, “There’s a lot of families we see with needs out there,” and despite the challenges, she finds hope in the success stories of those they’ve helped, reinforcing the organization’s vital role in her community.
