KEN HOLLAND AND JEFF BLASHILL EARN VICTORY IN LAST NIGHT’S BELL RINGING COMPETITION

… Red Wings 10th Annual Competition Raised $13,699 for The Salvation Army on Friday, Dec. 4 …

DETROIT – Detroit Red Wings Executive Vice President and General Manager Ken Holland and Head Coach Jeff Blashill earned a victory in the team’s 10th annual bell ringing competition on Friday night, as the four groups of Red Wings players, personnel and alumni brought in a grand total of $13,699.17 for The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign.

During a two-hour span of bell ringing at Kroger in Plymouth, Holland and Blashill raised $6,086.13 for the nonprofit to win the bell ringing competition. Holland has now been a member of the winning team in nine of the last 10 years that the Red Wings have joined forces with The Salvation Army.

Hundreds of fans visited the Kroger in Farmington Hills to meet forwards Luke Glendening, Dylan Larkin and Riley Sheahan, bringing in $3,901 for the Red Kettle Campaign to claim second place in the competition. The other two groups of Justin Abdelkader and Darren Helm at Hockeytown Authentics in Troy and Larry Murphy at Kroger in Birmingham collected a combined $3,712.

The average red kettle collects $200 in donations each day and the donations collected by the four groups in just two hours would equal nearly 70 days of bell ringing.

This season marks the 10th consecutive year the Detroit Red Wings and The Salvation Army are teaming up through the “Red Wings for Red Kettles” initiative to help the nonprofit reach its $8.7 million Red Kettle Campaign goal. The team will hold four Red Kettle Nights this month at Red Wings home games on Dec. 10, 14, 18 and 22. The initiative has raised more than $100,000 for the nonprofit since 2005.
