Salvation Army Red Kettle Donations to be Doubled for 10 Days Across Metro Detroit
As the Christmas season starts to wind down across southeast Michigan, The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit is ramping things up at its red kettles. Beginning Friday, Dec. 21 and running through New Year’s Eve, all donations up to $300,000 will be doubled and fully matched, dollar-for-dollar. For example, a $1 donation turns into $2, $5 into $10, $50 into $100, etc.
The Consortium of Hope, made up of local community leaders and businesses, are joining forces to match red kettle donations. The group’s goal is to help The Salvation Army reach its $8.2 million fundraising goal.
Many kettles will be off the streets by Christmas Eve, but there will be plenty of opportunities for supporters to donate to the nonprofit organization. Red Kettle Campaign donations will be accepted in-person at hundreds of storefront kettles, as well as by:
- Visiting www.salmich.org
- Texting SALMICH to 41444
- Calling 877-SAL-MICH
- Mailing a check or money order, made payable to The Salvation Army, to 16130 Northland Dr., Southfield, MI 48075
“These ten days are absolutely crucial to meeting our $8.2 million fundraising goal,” said Major Russ Sjögren, general secretary and metro Detroit area commander for The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division. “Metro Detroiters have always come to bat for us throughout the years, and we always appreciate their generosity. Their help allows us to continue providing critical programs and services such as youth and senior programs, anti-human trafficking efforts, emergency disaster services and much more.”
Red kettle contributions to-date are lagging behind projections to reach The Salvation Army’s $8.2 million fundraising goal, so every donation, no matter the amount, makes a major difference in the lives of thousands of people in metro Detroit.
Volunteers who register to ring for a two-hour shift at www.ringbell.org can also double their chances of winning a diamond necklace valued at over $6,000. The Ring for Bling volunteer initiative, introduced this year, allows ringers to earn one entry into a drawing to win the diamond necklace. However, individuals volunteering between December 21 through 24 will earn two entries for every one shift completed, four entries for every two shifts worked, and so on.
