Dear Friend,
The holidays are approaching very quickly and I often see friends and family who are sad that so many people have lost sight of the true meaning of Christmas. Their lives have been taken over by stress — from shopping and cooking, to cards and parties — and their hearts are left feeling empty.
But when we remember the precious gift of our Lord’s birth, our hearts are filled. And when we reach out with love and compassion to our neighbors in need, we’re truly bringing His message to life.
Here at The Salvation Army, we will work hard this holiday season to meet the needs of the less fortunate with food and clothing, emergency rent and utility relief, disaster assistance, compassionate counseling and so much more. But more than anything else, we will reach out with the gift of Christ’s love — right now, and throughout the year.
Because of your support, we can fill the hearts of everyone who comes to us with hope. That’s why I’m so glad The Salvation Army has friends like you who joined forces with us earlier this year during Doing The Most Good Week to help families and individuals in metro Detroit who are struggling. Because of your generosity, mouths will be fed . . . souls will be shelterered . . . and hearts will be healed. YOU are the reason so many men, women and children in our area have a more positive future to look forward to.
It’s The Salvation Army’s mission to Do the Most Good for the most people in need. Thank you for all you do each day to support not only The Salvation Army, but the dozens of worthy causes within the community that make a real difference in others’ lives.
Legendary basketball coach John Wooden summed up the essence of Doing the Most Good beautifully by saying, “you can’t live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you.” As we move forward toward the end of the year, I hope you’ll experience all the joy that Christmas has to offer.
