The Consortium of Hope to Double Donations to The Salvation Army Through New Year’s Eve
With Christmas quickly approaching, it is the perfect time to give to our Metro Detroit neighbors in need.
Thanks to The Consortium of Hope, all donations made to The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit will be matched dollar-for-dollar from Dec. 15 through New Year’s Eve. Donations will be doubled up to $550,000.
The Consortium of Hope is a group of local community leaders and businesses who, each year, combine their resources to help The Salvation Army reach its fundraising goal. This year, the goal is to raise $7.9 million for the annual Red Kettle Christmas Campaign.
In Cadillac, there is an additional match for the $200K Red Kettle Stay By Christmas Day campaign, made possible by RexAir and Horizon Bank.
The need is especially great now because the goal is currently falling short by about 14% – approximately $400,000.

"The Consortium of Hope comes at a critical time – with kettle donations down, every contribution, regardless of its size, makes an impact in our community. Thanks to the Consortium of Hope, this impact is now amplified twofold," said Major Toni Dorrell, Metro Detroit Area Commander.
Sheree, a mother of three children, a 7-year-old girl, 11-year-old boy, and 23-year-old young adult, is one individual being helped by The Salvation Army’s programs. She has been coming to The Salvation Army Plymouth Corps Community Center for years and has received help paying bills, and toys from the Toy Shop.
“I’ve been coming here awhile; it helps a lot. I wouldn’t have made it without them. It puts tears in my eyes sometimes. This Toy Shop means joy, it brings a big smile to my kids’ faces.”

Jennifer, an unemployed mother of a 14-month-old baby, is another example. She has received toys and food from The Salvation Army for two years.
