The Salvation Army and NorthRidge Church: The Perfect Partnership in God’s Kingdom

Apr 12, 2021

A blessed partnership that is more than ten years in the making, The Salvation Army’s relationship with NorthRidge Church in Plymouth made perfect sense way back when – and is even stronger today. NorthRidge consistently donates food to the pantry at The Salvation Army Plymouth Corps Community Center and to the Bed & Bread program.

Beth Harris, the church’s outreach coordinator, manages the team of 130 people who regularly volunteer for The Salvation Army.

“We used to hold food drives at our church years ago, but we realized that The Salvation Army was better equipped to address the need in the community,” Beth says. “Our volunteers are very familiar with food pantries and distributing food boxes, so that’s a big reason why we continue to support and volunteer with The Salvation Army in this way.”

When the COVID-19 pandemic first started spreading across southeast Michigan in March 2020, volunteers from NorthRidge provided crucial aid to address hunger, packing food boxes at The Salvation Army’s warehouse – which helped jumpstart the first phase of the nonprofit’s food box distribution services.

"The generosity of The Salvation Army stood out to me when I was at the warehouse at the start of the pandemic,” recalls Beth. “It’s nice to know that you are a refuge for people in need; The Salvation Army is a reassuring presence in our community. If we come across someone in need of food assistance, we know we can confidently send them to The Salvation Army, knowing they’ll be taken care of.”

NorthRidge Church also assists The Salvation Army in its anti-human trafficking efforts, donating money to the program and providing care kits for survivors.

Beth adds, “We want to love people and further God’s kingdom, and we love working with organizations that align with that goal.”

April 2021 is Volunteer Month. All month long, The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division recognizes, celebrates and thanks its incredible volunteers for their commitment, dedication and support to help Do The Most Good.
