The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit Kicks Off Consortium of Hope with WWJ Day

Dec 16, 2022

With Christmas only a week away, opportunities to donate to The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit’s Christmas campaign abound.

In particular, starting today, December 16, through New Year’s Eve, all donations made to The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Consortium of Hope. Donations will be doubled up to $500,000.

The Consortium of Hope is group of local community leaders and businesses who, combine their resources to help The Salvation Army reach its fundraising goal each year.

Kicking off the Consortium of Hope is WWJ day in which WWJ Newsradio 950 takes to the airwaves to help The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit reach its goal. The promotion happens all day with interviews and calls to donate by radio personalities.

WWJ’s Erin Vee will also be hosting The Salvation Army Red Kettle Holiday Extravaganza at Kapone’s bar in St. Clair Shores. The event begins at 1:00 p.m. and continues until the bar closes. It will feature live music, comedy, and more.

The goal of this year’s Red Kettle Christmas Campaign is to raise $8.2 million which provides support to vulnerable community members in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

No matter the amount, every donation makes a difference – and thanks to the Consortium of Hope, that’s now twice as true,” said Major Bob Mueller, metro Detroit area commander for The Salvation Army Great Lakes Division.

This is a critical time of the year for families in need. The Salvation Army urges metro Detroiters to donate if they are able, supporting those who may lack proper shelter, a warm meal, or may be choosing between things like rent and buying Christmas presents for their children.

There are still plenty of opportunities to support The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit’s 2022 Red Kettle Christmas Campaign. The iconic red kettles will remain at storefronts across the community until Christmas Eve, excluding Sundays. Other ways to contribute to the campaign include:

  • Texting GIFT to 24365
  • Visiting SAmetrodetroit.org
  • Calling 877-SAL-MICH
  • Sending a check, made payable to The Salvation Army, to: 16130 Northland Dr., Southfield, MI 48075

Contributions made during The Salvation Army’s 2022 Red Kettle Christmas Campaign are tax-deductible, and all donations benefit local families and individuals in the communities they are given.
