The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit Presents Rock the Red Kettle Virtual Concert Series
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., (Oct. 8, 2020) — The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division is launching its Rock the Red Kettle virtual concert series on Tuesday, Oct. 13 to help Rescue Christmas for struggling families in the community.
The Facebook fundraiser will host local musicians as they ‘take the stage’ at 7 p.m. on select Tuesday evenings through Dec. 15. Each event will feature one musical act performing a pre-recorded or live Facebook concert to raise funds for the nonprofit through a virtual red kettle fundraising page.
Interested fans can tune into The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division’s Facebook page for exclusive watch parties and fight hunger and homelessness by donating to a band’s virtual red kettle.
The series lineup will incorporate a variety of artists from different genres, including:
Tuesday, Oct. 13 – Pivotal Awakening sponsored by Vella Strategic Philanthropy Group
- Contemporary Christian alternative rock/pop band with unique ties to The Salvation Army
Tuesday, Oct. 20 – Jukebox Paradox sponsored by Vella Strategic Philanthropy Group
- Classic rock group specializing in live band karaoke
Tuesday, Oct. 27 – Birds of Prey
- Bluegrass-influenced band and 2019 WCSX Rockin' Wars winner
Tuesday, Nov. 17 – The Salvation Army Brass Band
- The Salvation Army’s go-to group for classic, contemporary and Christmas tunes
Tuesday, Nov. 24 – The Corduroy Job
- A progressive band tastefully blending elements of funk, rock, hip hop and blues
Tuesday, Dec. 1 – Drew De Four
- Singer-songwriter, dueling pianist and humanist pop musician
Tuesday, Dec. 8 – Wisteria
- Classic and modern rock group dabbling in Motown, country, pop and original music
Tuesday, Dec. 15 – Fritts and Chips
- Energetic duo offering an eclectic selection of hits
Additional dates will be announced throughout the season.
Rock the Red Kettle is presented by 94.7 WCSX and 101.1 WRIF.
“The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has cancelled annual events, shifted fundraising efforts and devasted so many of our neighbors,” said Major Timothy Meyer, general secretary and metro Detroit area commander (regional chief operating officer) for The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division. “Rock the Red Kettle’s virtual structure allows The Salvation Army to continue holding events and raising funds to support our neighbors in need. Despite a lack of red kettles, the community can still get involved from the comfort and safety of their own home.”
The Salvation Army’s 2020 Red Kettle Campaign fundraising goal is $8 million. In addition to donating to a band’s virtual red kettle, Salvation Army supporters can help support the nonprofit’s early efforts to Rescue Christmas by:
