The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit Seeks Additional Red Kettle Volunteer Bell Ringers
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (Dec. XX, 2019) – The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit has less than two weeks left until its iconic red kettles leave storefronts. The nonprofit organization requests the community’s support by volunteering as a red kettle bell ringer to help meet its $8 million Red Kettle Campaign fundraising goal.
Every red kettle that has a volunteer increases the chances of hitting the campaign goal. The Salvation Army aims to fill shifts across 350 kettle locations throughout Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties.
“Every site a volunteer fills will prove critical to the success of this year’s mission to ‘Do The Most Good’ for individuals and families living in metro Detroit,” Major Tim Meyer, general secretary and metro Detroit area commander for The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division. “In fact, a manned kettle collects an average of $53 per hour in donations, $400 more per day than an unmanned kettle.”
Those interested in donating their time for a good cause can visit registertoring.com and sign up for shifts. The site allows visitors to choose from any city and date range and select the shift that works best for their schedule. Shifts are two hours apiece, although many choose to ring longer. For example, families and businesses often reserve a large block of time and split it amongst their members.
Bell ringing runs through Tuesday, Dec. 24, excluding Sundays.
The Salvation Army is leading the fight for good by providing after-school programs, emergency disaster services, substance abuse treatment and free legal aid for families and individuals throughout metro Detroit, including more than 2.5 million meals and more than 574,000 nights of shelter each year. The Salvation Army is more than a red a kettle; donations help ensure The Salvation Army can continue providing these programs for those in need.
