The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit Offering Christmas Assistance to Individuals and Families in Need This Season
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (Nov. 11, 2020) — The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit is continuing its commitment to Rescue Christmas in 2020 by accepting applications for Christmas assistance from Macomb, Oakland and Wayne County residents. Individuals and families can apply at any of the 13 corps community centers in metro Detroit.
Christmas assistance applicants must provide proof of all members living in the household. Adults must provide a form of identification – which can include a driver’s license or state ID - and proof they live in the zip code served by the corps at which they are applying (such as a recent utility bill or rent or mortgage payment). Names and dates of birth for children are required to apply for Christmas assistance as well.
Applications must be filed at a corps community center according to the recipient’s zip code. Applications are being accepted by phone or online by contacting the nearest Salvation Army corps community center. For help finding the nearest center, visit salmich.org or call (248) 443-5500.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, The Salvation Army is seeing requests for food, shelter and Christmas assistance rise substantially; in fact, many of those seeking help from The Salvation Army are receiving assistance for the very first time.
In addition, The Salvation Army’s ability to raise vital funds to serve those in need is at risk this year due to the impact and economic hardships caused by the coronavirus crisis. Supporters can Rescue Christmas throughout the 2020 Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign by donating or volunteering their time this Christmas season to aid The Salvation Army reach its $8 million fundraising goal. All funds raised will directly benefit communities throughout Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties.
