The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit Seeks Volunteers to Thank Essential Workers
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., (May 18, 2020) — The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit is looking for volunteers to write thank you notes that will be delivered with donuts to essential workers on the front lines (healthcare, police and fire) on National Donut Day, Friday, June 5.
During World Wars I and II, The Salvation Army brought hope to those on the front lines by serving nearly 9,000 cake donuts to soldiers every day amidst gunfire and bombs. This year, The Salvation Army will bring hope to the emergency response and healthcare workers who are on the front lines in this trying time.
Volunteers can handwrite words of encouragement or gratitude on index cards (5x7 size is preferred, but not required) and drop them off into an outdoor drop box at one of the following locations:
- The Salvation Army - Divisional Headquarters 16130 Northland Drive, Southfield 48075 (the entrance under the red awning at the rear of the building)
- The Plymouth Corps Community Center - 9451 S Main Street, Plymouth 48170 (side main entrance)
- The Royal Oak Corps Community Center - 3015 N. Main, Royal Oak, MI 48073 (office door under the green awning on the south side of the building)
Deadline to drop off thank you notes is Wednesday, June 3.
