Investing in the Future of Our Communities.

The Salvation Army knows the importance of strengthening our youth.

Find Out More About Our Youth Services

There is a direct link between a child's success in adulthood and the amount of positive support and opportunites presented to them.

Youth empowerment programs result in improved social skills, self esteem, academic preformance and much more.

The Salvation Army has more than 400 after school programs in the United States.

Within the Heartland Division, children from any and all backgrounds are able to attend a large variety of these types of programs. Every one of these provide children with a safe place to play and learn in a supervised and constructive environment. These programs can be faith-based sports, arts, music programs, or a number of uniquely themed programs. Local municipalities can sometimes struggle to fund these extracurricular programs and so The Salvation Army works towards keeping these opportunities for youth development available to our communities. We want to always offer a place for kids to come, explore and grow alongside their neighbors in creative ways without any the barriers to entry or discrimination.

Give a child a better chance. You can help.

The Salvation Army facilitates youth
development & educational opportunities through:

Homework assistance and counseling

At The Salvation Army, we provide one-on-one teaching assistance to help kids of all ages with school work, study guidance and literacy advancement. We open our doors to anyone in need and never discriminate based on gender, ethnicity, or socioeconomic level.

Sports, clubs and extracurricular activities

Through a variety of no-fee and low cost after-school programs, we provide safe ways for kids to make friends and participate in activities they may not otherwise be able to afford or attend.

Summer Camps

For many kids, summer camp is the first time they will see the world outside of their neighborhood. Each year, we enable thousands of children from low-income families to enjoy fresh air, exercise and new friendships through our annual summer camp programs. This camping experience is more than just a few days away from home. Here, children learn new skills and self-reliance. Trained counselors who understand their emotional needs and problems help them mature and grow. Camp Activities include learning to swim, scouting, arts and crafts, music development, and sports.

Dance, art and music programs

We work to provide music and arts programs that many schools can no longer afford. From choirs to instrument training, poetry to painting, drama to dance, after-school lessons and activities help introduce children to the beauties of the fine arts.

Parental involvement coaching

We work to develop relationships with parents in efforts to encourage familial support for educational processes and emotional guidance.
