Salvation Army of Southern Indiana begins collecting donations for Toys for Tots
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The calendar may say Oct.1, but Christmas was top of mind Tuesday in Clarksville, as the Salvation Army hosted a kickoff event for their Toys for Tots campaign.
Each Christmas, Toys for Tots helps the Salvation Army of Southern Indiana provide toys for more than 3,000 children in need.
During Tuesday’s kickoff at Mission BBQ, people could drop off toys or make donations.
“We collect toys in the five local counties, Floyd, Clark, Harrison, Washington and Scott counties, and we service over 3,000 children, so we need 10,000 toys,” Debbie Adams with Toys for Tots said. “We have boxes like this out in all of the local businesses, about 180 local businesses that we put the boxes in to collect toys.”
You can drop new toys in those donation boxes through Dec. 6. Then they’ll be sorted and distributed to the kids.
If your family is in need of assistance, applications for the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program opened Tuesday in Southern Indiana. Go to sanewalbany.org to get started. You can also call the Salvation Army at 812-944-1018.
