The Weekly Word - A Devotion for the Week of July 3

Jun 30, 2023

The Lord has a plan for you and His love for us never stops.

It’s not easy to wait patiently for what the Lord has in store for us. We react in anger, frustration, or despair when hard things happen to us or we’re waiting for a prayer to be answered. We sometimes question whether God is still looking after us in difficult trials.

These verses remind us to not lose hope in Him and to remember His promise to us. The book of Lamentations was written by Jeremiah, a prophet, most likely after the destruction of Jerusalem. At the beginning of chapter three, Jeremiah writes about all the tribulations he has gone through and how difficult life is. In verse 15, he says he is filled with bitterness.

You’ve probably felt like that too – like God has turned away from you. Jeremiah is telling us to not give up hope. After the first 18 verses, Jeremiah reminds us that the Lord’s love is steadfast, and His mercies are endless.

Jeremiah says, “It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” Waiting quietly can be a difficult task for humans. We often rely on ourselves instead of trusting that the Lord will provide and take care of us.

Even if it seems as though we can’t feel God during difficult times, He is still loving us and caring for us through everything we do. He has a plan for everyone, so we can put our trust in Him.

Great is His faithfulness!
