The Weekly Word - A Devotion for the Week of June 5

Jun 1, 2023

God has a desire to bless those who follow Him.

When we give our lives to Jesus, we are in covenant with Him. He has chosen us to be His people even before we were born. We can rejoice in knowing we have a Father in heaven who pursues us and wants a relationship with us. Even when we sin, God still wants our hearts and wants what’s best for us.

In this verse, God says He will “pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground.” He is telling the people of Israel that He will provide for them since they have been suffering. He’s still doing the same for us today!

In the second part of the verse, Isaiah writes “I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.” When the Holy Spirit is poured on us as it says in the verse, we then have a sense of belonging to the Lord. We have a new sense of self, like in the next verse: “They shall spring up among the grass like willows by flowing streams.” We have a new life with Christ.

When we turn away from our wicked ways and pursue the Lord, He wants us to live a new life with Him. He desires to know us better – not only us, but our descendants, as well.

Let us walk in this truth and find joy in belonging to the one true king.
