The Weekly Word - A Devotion for the Week of September 4

Sep 1, 2023

Give thanks to the Lord in all circumstances and speak of His good works to those around you.

From the beginning of the Bible to the end, the people of God are asked to call upon His name and give thanks. This is a simple task, but so important for us as Christians. We were created to have a relationship with God, and he wants to have one with us! What a privilege that is. He designed us so we can speak to Him and He can speak to us, and He didn’t have to do it that way.

In this verse we are asked to give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name, and make His deeds known among people. These are straightforward instructions; we don’t need to complicate it. God isn’t trying to trick us or deceive us in any way. He loves and cares for us, even those who don’t have a relationship with Him.

The last part of the verse says, “Make known his deeds among the peoples!” This is a reminder to spread the word of God to those who haven’t heard it yet. As Christians, we are asked to share God’s word and to teach others how to be saved and reconciled to Him. In verse 2 it says, “Tell of all his wondrous works!” God performs incredible miracles and feats, and we should want to tell others of the good He has done.

This verse is a reminder to give thanks to our creator. Live each day in gratitude for the good He has done in your life.
