Indiana McDonald’s Owners Partner with Salvation Army to Assist in Tornado Recovery

Apr 12, 2023

Monday afternoon, McDonald’s of Greater Indiana and Southwest Michigan donated $10,000 worth of McDonald’s Arch Cards to The Salvation Army's Johnson County Red Shield Center. The Salvation Army will distribute the cards to people in Whiteland and across Johnson County impacted by recent tornadoes. The Arch Cards will help feed families a hot meal and offer a place for them to refuel and recharge with access to Wi-Fi and electricity to power devices.

“When we saw the devastation and destruction these storms brought, we knew we needed to jump in and help our neighbors,” said Andy Ball, a McDonald’s Owner/Operator in Whiteland and other surrounding communities. “We’re all Hoosiers. And when a fellow Hoosier is in a bad spot, we step up and help however we can.”

On Friday, March 31 more than 20 tornadoes touched down across Indiana. Five people died and hundreds of buildings were destroyed. The National Weather Service determined the twister that hit Whiteland was an EF-3 tornado with winds up to 140 mph.

“We hope that this small gesture can support this community as they continue to rebuild,” added McDonald’s Owner/Operator Zack Wojtowicz, who operates restaurants in Johnson and Shelby counties. “Whether it’s a meal, electricity, Wi-Fi, or just a sense of some normalcy, McDonald’s is going to be here for the people of Whiteland.”

The Salvation Army has been working with other local, state, and federal resources to help in the cleanup and recovery.

“This community and so many others impacted by the storms have a long road ahead,” said Major Mary Thomas of The Salvation Army’s Johnson County Red Shield Center. “We’re going to be here every step of the way to make sure the people of Indiana get all the help they need. We’re thankful to McDonald’s for this generous donation.”

The Salvation Army is partnering with The United Way of Johnson CountyIndiana Red Cross, and area churches to coordinate services to the community. Anyone interested in supporting their efforts can donate online by visiting HelpSalvationArmy.org or by texting the word HOOSIER to 24-365.
