Financial institutions pledge to ‘Break the Bank’ during Red Kettle Campaign

LA CROSSE – La Crosse area banks and credit unions are once again pledging dollars and time to ultimately help people in need.
On Saturday, December 2nd, The Salvation Army of La Crosse County’s Red Kettle Campaign will host the fourth annual ‘Break the Bank’ event. 12 banks and credit unions are sponsoring the day by pledging a total of $12,000 to kick off the Campaign’s December push for donations. Participating banks and credit unions include Altra Federal Credit Union, Bremer Bank, Citizens State Bank, Coulee Bank, Firefighters Credit Union, Marine Credit Union, Merchants Bank, State Bank Financial, U.S. Bank, Union State Bank, Verve, a Credit Union, and Wells Fargo.
“This is a great event that has become an annual tradition for our biggest fundraiser of the year,” said Nick Ragner of The Salvation Army. “On a normal day, these banks and credit unions are competing for customers. On Saturday, they’ll be working together to help people in need. We are so thankful to have this kind of support during our busiest time of the year.”
To date (Tuesday, November 28), the Red Kettle Campaign has raised 11% of the Campaign’s $949,500 goal – approximately one-third of The Salvation Army’s annual budget. Money raised is used to continue various programs and services offered year-round including the Emergency Shelter and Meal Program. The bell ringing season runs until Saturday, December 23rd. Donations can be made toward the Campaign until January 31st.
