The Salvation Army of La Crosse County Hosts Second Community BBQ

Jul 20, 2022 | by Willow Pecha

The Salvation Army hosted a second Community Barbeque on July 15th, from 12p.m.-2p.m. It featured food, refreshments, and music to bring together community members, partners, the people we serve, and Salvation Army staff to learn more about the organization.

Community around The Salvation Army dates back to 1865, when William Booth abandoned the traditional church and set out to lead and assist the poor, homeless, and hungry toward an improved life. Soon after his unconventional approach to doing good, he and his wife began to train evangelists throughout England, and created a community of thousands across the world . A community called, “The Salvation Army.” The Salvation Army is a volunteer army and community, created to heal and help those in need.

Since 1865, The Salvation Army functions for the time and service of the community. The Salvation Army is so grateful to have donors, partners, a large volunteer base, and the community to assist in the mission of fostering growth of the mind, body, and spirit for those within the greater La Crosse area.

The community barbeque was an effort to bring our friends from every corner of the La Crosse area to come and have conversations around the betterment of lives, services and programs, and the organization. It provided a space for feedback from our community and how to charter the next steps of the organization. It was also a space for the community to learn about The Salvation Army, get to know who’s involved, and how they can get involved. All of this, with good food, refreshments, and music? The perfect way to spend a Friday afternoon! We were so grateful to have a turnout of over 100 people.

Judge grilled up burgers, brats, hot dogs, chicken. Doreen made sure there were ice cream, refreshments, and more. The development team made a cold pasta. All Staff helped prepared, set up, and converse in the fun of the day. Nate from the band 1AChord joined us and was the music to our ears.

Thank you to all who were in attendance.
