Blossom the Donkey raises funds to support The Salvation Army
Did some say there was donkey at the kettle?
The Red Kettle Campaign is back and so is Blossom “The Packer Backer” donkey! On Saturday, December 3, Martha and John Hovre returned this year with their donkey Blossom, to ring bells in support of the local Salvation Army at Blain’s Farm and Fleet. The Horve’s are from Galesville, WI and traveled a half hour to get to La Crosse to raise money, that supports vulnerable members of our community. Along with Blossom comes her babies (teenagers now) Buddy and Inga, who hang out in the trailer while their mama greets community members. Despite the cold, the Hovre family, brought smiles and holiday spirit to the kettles.
This year Blossom doubled as a donkey and a reindeer with her green, glittery antlers. Blossom was a surprise for many shoppers exiting Farm & Fleet but presented a unique opportunity for adults and children alike to stop and visit with a donkey after shopping. Many pictures were taken and for the little ones they were able to take photos on Blossom’s back. This family raised a total of 549.49 in 2021 and this year raised $714.04!
Special thank you to Martha & John for being willing to bring Blossom back this year. You both truly make the season brighter!
