Brightening the Holidays: Angel Tree 2022

Dec 28, 2022

A true brightening of the holidays.

Christmas and the holidays bring joy and excitement to the community – it is the most wonderful time of the year, they say! To ensure the most vulnerable and those in need of resources are able to experience that same joy and excitement, Angel Tree comes alive.

Angel Tree was created by The Salvation Army in 1979 by Majors Charles and Shirley White when they worked with a Lynchburg, Virginia shopping mall to provide clothing and toys for children at Christmas time. Since then, Salvation Armys have adopted their own Angel Tree programs.

Locally, the program aids those in need by providing children ages 0-12 with Christmas gifts and providing food baskets— putting food on the table during the holiday season. Food baskets are also available for singles who are not registering for Angel Tree. Christmas trees are placed in the surrounding Walmarts and an Advanced Auto location. Angel Tags are placed on the trees – which provide info on what each child needs, their sizes, and favorite items. The community is invited to sponsor these tags – buying the needed items and donating them to The Salvation Army for the Angel Distribution Day. Volunteers work hard sorting, organizing, and preparing for a successful Distribution Day. Due to the generosity of the community, we were able to provide gifts to over 770 children and over 340 food boxes this 2022 Angel Tree season. Volunteers gave over 630 hours toward this program – thank you to the many groups and individuals who gave their time! You all are so appreciated!

We thank the community for showing up another year, to provide joy to hundreds of families in La Crosse County. Without you, this program and the spirit of Christmas would not be as strong. Care and compassion for our neighbors who need us rang true for yet another season of giving.

This program is a massive community effort – from a community of service-driven hearts. There has been good done that will last forever. This is what is looks like when we Journey Together, we are better!
