La Crosse County funds Housing Specialist position at The Salvation Army
LA CROSSE – Funds from the La Crosse County Human Services Department will add a Housing Specialist position to the Salvation Army of La Crosse County’s Social Services team. This designated staff member will work with clients to quickly identify housing options, develop a housing plan, and coordinate a move based on the client’s transition plan from the shelter to affordable, permanent housing.
The purpose of The Salvation Army’s Emergency Shelter is to provide a safe place for those in need, while working with a Case Management team to create an individualized plan for self-sufficiency. The Housing Specialist will not only be tasked with finding affordable places to rent in the community, but to also collaborate with landlords to build better relationships and incentives which will allow more individuals to find housing, who may have been previously been turned away.
“Before this position was introduced, many of our Shelter staff & Case Managers would spend numerous hours on housing efforts which took away from the amount of time they could spend working towards client goals,” says Social Services Director Krista Coey, “Thanks to our partners at the La Crosse County, we will now have someone whose sole purpose is to work on finding places available for rent, our team can spend their time giving our clients the quality case management they need to get back on their feet and be successful in permanent housing.”
A press conference regarding the new position will be held on Monday, July 20th at 11am featuring representatives of the La Crosse County and Social Services Team at The Salvation Army of La Crosse County’s administrative offices located at 223 N 8th Street. For questions or concerns related to the Housing Specialist position, community members are urged to call The Salvation Army at (608) 782-6126.
