The Salvation Army & JCI La Crosse collaborate to spread Christmas Cheer
LA CROSSE – Two nonprofit organizations are working together to promote collaboration and community to bring joy to hundreds of children and financial relief to families in need.
The Salvation Army’s Angel Giving Tree and JCI La Crosse’s Toys for Tots are working together this Christmas Season to help as many families as possible and better meet the need in La Crosse County. Both programs, which assist families in need, will provide gifts of toys, clothing, and a food basket to families and their children who otherwise might not have anything for Christmas.
New this year: the programs will be going virtual under a singular website to provide a safer environment to accommodate for changing situations that families are facing. Applicants to the Angel Giving Tree and Toys for Tots programs will be able to register online, which will provide each child with brand new clothing, such as a new shirt & pants, as well as a toy. A Food Basket is also included for the total amount of people who live in the household. LINK TO WEBSITE
The Toys for Tots program, which was founded by Fred Kramer in 1935, collected over 1,200 toys last year thanks to generous donations from the La Crosse community. The toy drive, which takes place in November and December, collects new toys such as dolls, trucks, and board games in designated barrel locations.
Donors and sponsors can play the role of ‘Santa Claus’ and adopt an angel for a family in need. Donors can call The Salvation Army at (608) 782-6126 or visit the new donor adopt an angel website. Business and organizations that would like to help by hosting a barrel for toy collection can call JCI La Crosse at (608) 492-1935.
If applicants are unable to access the website, please contact The Salvation Army’s office at (608) 782-6126. A press conference with The Salvation Army and JCI La Crosse will be held on Saturday, October 10th at 11am at the Family and Children Center located at 1707 Main Street.
