History

Manitowoc County History

The Salvation Army has been serving the residents of Manitowoc County since 1916. We have seen many changes in Manitowoc County throughout that time and are looking forward to what the next hundred years will hold as we continue to serve.

International History

The Salvation Army was founded in London, England by William Booth, a Methodist minister, and his wife Catherine, in the latter half of the nineteenth century. Despite religious persecution, Booth's goal was to meet physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the total individual. Through courage and fortitude, he achieved his goals. From him was born the phrase often associated with The Salvation Army, "Soup, Soap and Salvation."Today, The Salvation Army is active in 128 countries around the world. It is one of the most well-known and loved nonprofit service organizations in the United States. The Salvation Army is active in 7,546 centers in communities throughout the United States.
