Millions of American parents cannot afford to buy their kids Christmas presents.
The holidays bring added financial and emotional stress to families living in poverty. This year the need is even greater.

The Salvation Army's mission shines brightest at Christmastime. And this year, the need is greater than ever.

This year has been hard for millions of hardworking families across the country. For those struggling to pay rent or put food on the table after a job loss, Christmas may seem out of reach. You can help The Salvation Army brighten the holidays by spreading hope, love and joy to the less fortunate members of society. As families gather together to count their blessings, they wish each other glad tidings and experience children's unbridled happiness. From physical needs such as grocery, utility and gift assistance, to emotional experiences including holiday events and traditions, to spiritual guidance that provides healing and hope, The Salvation Army works to assist the whole person through gifts that serve the body, mind and soul.

Brighten the Holidays

The Salvation Army brightens the holiday season for those in need through:

Red Kettles

These iconic red kettles signal the start of the holiday season. Donations collected in these buckets support the services in your neighborhood. Bell ringers are both seasonal employees and volunteers. Learn more about Bell Ringing or Register to Ring today. And while Kettle Pay means contactless giving is available, the pandemic means there are fewer red kettles and fewer shoppers out and about. From September 16 - January 31st, help brighten the holidays by fundraising or donating through our Virtual Red Kettle. If you would like to have a red kettle at your next corporate event, you can make a request online today.

Angel Tree

When you're struggling financially to care for your family, holiday gifts are often not feasible. The Salvation Army Angel Tree program allows donors to purchase gifts and clothes for families in need, making their holidays brighter. You can shop online from the comfort and safety of your home or opt to shop in-person. In fact, from October 15 until December 11, you may shop our online Walmart Registry for Good Angel Tree. Please consider being an angel for a child, senior, or family in need this Christmas. Groups, businesses and families are welcome!

Winter Warmth & Coat Drives

To request a coat voucher, contact our office at 773-725-1100 for more information.
If your group is interested in hosting a winter warmth drive, please contact us at uscmet.holidaydonate@usc.salvationarmy.org.

Holiday Meals

The Salvation Army provides holiday meals for families unable to create a special meal themselves. Several community centers will have to-go holiday meals this year to provide Christmas spirit in a safe manner.

With more people facing hardship this year, the need to serve those most vulnerable is greater than ever.

The best way to ensure that services continue is to enlist in Love’s Army with a sustaining monthly gift.
