On the first Friday in June, Americans celebrate the goodness that is donuts. But did you know that National Donut Day actually has its roots in doing good?
The Salvation Army created the first donut day event in Chicago in 1938 as a fundraiser to help those in need during The Great Depression. The Chicagoland area continues the tradition by raising awareness and support for its services to those in need, including providing shelter, food, early childhood education, after-school programming, music education, alcohol and substance abuse rehabilitation and more.
To celebrate the spirit of the big anniversary, The Salvation Army has teamed up with the legendary Addison, Illinois bakery – Clyde’s. For 98 years Clyde’s has quietly made and provided a variety of donuts and baked goods to local grocery stores and restaurants.
Help celebrate Donut Day by learning and sharing the tradition and joining our local Donut Day events.
