Dr. Jonathan Corry arrived in the Metropolitan Division in October 2016 from Enfield Citadel Corps in London, England where he was the Bandmaster from 2008. In 2016, Jonathan completed his Ph.D. from the University of Salford centered on balancing religious expectations with artistic excellence.
Jonathan received his B.Mus (hons) degree from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) where he studied Trumpet with John Miller, John Dickinson and David Staff. During this time he performed and recorded with many famous brass bands including Black Dyke, Brighouse & Rastrick and Fodens. He has been a featured concerto soloist performing works by Haydn and Hummel with the Ulster Orchestra and Camerata Ireland respectively. An interest in conducting developed at the RNCM, leading to Jonathan becoming Musical Director of Besses O’th Barn brass band – the oldest established brass band on record!
Jonathan completed a Masters (M.Mus) in conducting at the RNCM, which led to him conducting many fine ensembles including the Grimethorpe Band, Christlicher Musikverband Schwiez (CMVS), The National Youth Orchestra of Ireland and the European Youth Brass Band. He has been a guest at many SA music schools throughout Europe and USA and continues to be in demand as a clinician and adjudicator for brass bands.
