I’m originally from St. Louis, Missouri. Through my years at Marquette University, I grew to love Milwaukee. I chose to stay in Milwaukee after graduation because of the career opportunities and medium-city feel.
I love Milwaukee’s unique neighborhoods, music scene and fascinating history. I’m a sucker for learning about the history of Milwaukee’s oldest buildings, jazz clubs and hidden gems. There is always some new to discover.
I have too many favorites! I love the Pfister for it’s beautiful interior design, ghost stories and spot as a Milwaukee landmark. While The Blu has a beautiful view of the lake, I love the 23rd floor ladies’ restroom even more for its secret but impressive view of the city.
Bastille Days and Summerfest are my favorites.
I’m hoping to get to know Milwaukee better not as a Marquette student but as an actual Milwaukee resident. Echelon, with its opportunity to do some good in the community and meet other like-minded young professionals, seemed like a perfect way to begin that journey.
Like with many other cities across the county, Milwaukee often fail to devote enough attention and consideration to many of its disadvantaged populations. As one of the most segregated cities in the country, Milwaukee’s advantaged and disadvantaged populations have strikingly different experiences. Often, it feels like there are two different Milwaukees; the one that is proudly shown to the rest of the world and the one that is hidden. I believe a collaborative effort between different Milwaukee communities is required for Milwaukee to reach its fullest potential.
