The Women's Auxiliary

Dedicated to supporting the mission of The Salvation Army

The purpose of Women's Auxiliary is to augment the personal service programs of The Salvation Army.

Auxiliary members participate and support in a wide range of ways, including:

  • Fund raising for The Children's Shelter, by planning and producing a Children's Shelter Catalog.
  • Providing volunteers to bell ring at kettles and staff Angel Trees during the holiday season
  • Provide funding and volunteers at area Salvation Army Day Care Centers
  • Aid Supportive Housing with supplies, games and volunteers

HISTORY

The Women's Auxiliary was founded in March, 1951, by Mrs. Herbert Orear. The first meeting was held in the home of Mrs. Robert Normandie and the following officers were elected: Mrs. Herbert Orear, President; Mrs. Robert Normandie, First Vice-President; Mrs. Grant Stauffer, Second Vice-President; Mrs. Louis Marks, Third Vice-President; Mrs. Wilbur Bartles, Secretary; Mrs. A.C. Trefzer, Treasurer; Mrs. Jack Nourse, Historian; and Mrs. Lt. Colonel Glenn Ryan of The Salvation Army was Liaison Officer. On May 20, 1959, the Women's Auxiliary awarded Mrs. Orear the title of President Emeritus and Life Membership in recognition of her service to the Auxiliary. She died in California in February, 1980. From this nucleus of dedicated women, the Auxiliary's membership continues to grow and reach out to touch the lives of numerous men, women, and children in Kansas and Missouri.
