$10,000 Red Kettle Match Starts on Giving Tuesday
Red Kettles are popping up all across Delaware County, and The Salvation Army's annual Christmas fundraising campaign will be getting a welcome boost starting on Giving Tuesday, one of the year's biggest days for philanthropy.
Starting on November 30, which is the annual worldwide Giving Tuesday day of giving, and running through December 4, cash donations dropped into Red Kettles across the county will be doubled thanks to a generous $5,000 matching gift from a local Salvation Army supporter. This match will be used to encourage holiday shoppers to give a little more and make a big impact in the lives of their neighbors in need.
While this "Angel Donor" wishes to remain anonymous, they did have a message to share with the community:
"The Muncie community has a special place in my heart. I'm thrilled to offer this Red Kettle match so that my neighbors can double their impact on those who need it most in Delaware County."
The Salvation Army has worked tirelessly to meet the needs of Delaware County residents throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the beginning of the pandemic, The Salvation Army has seen a rise in the need for food and financial assistance. Families that have never sought help before have looked to The Salvation Army to get them through these challenging times. The funds raised by Red Kettles in November and December will help to ensure that The Salvation Army can continue to meet these increased needs while providing regular programming and services to the community.
"I appreciate those that set up a match opportunity for the Red Kettle Campaign," said Major Mark Litherland of The Salvation Army Muncie Corps. "It creates a fun challenge for the bell ringers as well as the donors to 'Do The Most Good' in Muncie and Delaware County as we strive to hit our overall campaign goal."
Shoppers looking for a Red Kettle this fall will find bell ringers at Walmart, Rural King, Hobby Lobby, and Big Lots from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Anyone interested in volunteering to ring a bell this holiday season is invited to visit RegisterToRing.com and find a location, date, and time that works for their schedule.
Every donation given to The Salvation Army through the annual Red Kettle Campaign provides help and hope to those in need, and all gifts stay right here in the community where it is given.
