Providing Fresh Food to Those in Need.

James has been coming to The Salvation Army for over three years to help provide food for himself and his 82-year-old father, who doesn’t receive food stamps. “I come here to help him and me out, and it helps out every time we come,” James says. He relies on the food pantry’s variety of fruits, vegetables, meats, and boxed foods, which help them make ends meet. While James receives disability benefits, it’s barely enough to cover essential expenses, and without the food pantry, he admits, “It’ll be a world of trouble.” The Salvation Army’s support is critical for him and many others in the community. Still, as James notes, “They need donations as soon as possible” to keep providing these much-needed services.

Bridget, the social services coordinator, highlights the organization’s commitment to addressing critical needs in the community, particularly food insecurity and housing challenges. She manages a variety of programs, including a food pantry, Thanksgiving meals, and a coat distribution initiative. “Food insecurity is the number one thing that we address,” she explains, noting that many families struggle due to the lack of affordable housing options. As funding for housing programs dwindles, the demand for food assistance increases, compelling The Salvation Army to focus on ensuring that individuals can allocate their limited finances towards housing by providing essential food supplies.
