Meet Sandi Swor, Remarkable Volunteer
Sandi Swor has been volunteering at the Fargo Salvation Army for nearly six years. From serving meals to serving disaster survivors, she does it all.
Sandi has been an active member of the Fargo Salvation Army’s disaster team since 2014. In this role she serves food and drinks to survivors and first responders at local fires and other emergencies.
Sandi is so dependable that The Salvation Army sent her to Houston, Texas in 2018 to serve survivors of Hurricane Harvey. She spent a week there with other volunteers working in a massive warehouse that was used to store donated food, clothing and household items. She spent additional time setting up food banks for survivors to access whenever they needed groceries.
Sandi is also a dedicated volunteer for the Fargo Salvation Army’s hot meal programs. For the past two years, she has served breakfast every Tuesday and Thursday.
Her favorite part of serving meals is interacting with the guests.
“I think they feel special when you greet them with kindness and a smile,” Sandi said. “They don’t need to feel judgment.”
Sandi also volunteers at special events such as Cuts for Kids, which provides free back-to-school haircuts for low-income families. She serves humbly, often taking on the less-desirable roles like checking for lice.
Sandi became a regular volunteer soon after she retired from her lifelong career in nursing.
“I was praying about what I should do,” she said. “I like to be busy and productive.”
Sandi now knows that God brought her to The Salvation Army, and He has kept her here. She finds joy in loving others the way Jesus does.
The Fargo Salvation Army is so thankful for volunteers like Sandi. They make our mission possible.
