Giving Hearts Day 2025: Donations matched in North Dakota on Thursday, Feb. 13

Jan 29, 2025

Giving Hearts Day on Thursday, Feb. 13 is North Dakota’s biggest fundraising day of the year, and it just got even more exciting.

An anonymous donor has given $25,000 to match gifts given to The Salvation Army’s six locations in North Dakota on Giving Hearts Day. All gifts will support Salvation Army programs that provide food, shelter and care for people and families in your community.

You can help change somebody’s life by clicking on your community below to give a donation of any amount:

When you donate to The Salvation Army on Giving Hearts Day, your gift will provide twice the support for local families struggling against inflation and the unrelenting costs of food, gas and housing.

Recent data shows that 8,000 North Dakota households are behind on their rent or at risk of eviction. Additionally, more than 28,000 households are experiencing food insecurity.

“Some families are having to choose between paying their rent or buying groceries,” said Lt. Col. Randall Polsley, leader of The Salvation Army Northern Division. “Nobody should have to choose.”

Your Impact

Your gift will help people like Miranda and Will – a North Dakota couple who have been living paycheck to paycheck ever since Will suffered a back injury and multiple surgeries. His only sources of income are modest disability payments, donating plasma, and working part-time as much as his body will allow.

Miranda is a stay-at-home mom to the couple’s 1-year-old child. She works temp jobs whenever she can.

The family relies on The Salvation Army to make ends meet. Thanks to your gifts, they receive baby supplies, clothing, gas cards, and other tangible resources, along with budgeting advice and long-term mentorship. This support has helped the couple stay in their apartment and sign another one-year lease.

“We are doing our best to be self-sufficient, but it’s nice to know The Salvation Army is there as a lifeboat when we need it,” Will said.

The Salvation Army thanks all of our donors for their generosity on Giving Hearts Day and throughout 2025.

“These gifts will allow The Salvation Army to change the lives of people and families in North Dakota right now and throughout the coming year,” Polsley said. "May God bless you for your support."

The Giving Hearts Day matching gift includes $25,000 that will be split equally between The Salvation Army’s locations in BismarckFargoGrand ForksJamestownMinot, and Williston.
