Each year, thousands of children residing in the metro area – from infants to 18 year-olds – receive a warm coat for the winter from The Salvation Army. Our Coats for Kids program has been keeping Twin Cities children warm for more than 30 years. In that time, donors have provided roughly 334,000 coats and winter accessories to local families in need.
The official Salvation Army coat drive in the Twin Cities runs through October. However, donations of children’s coats and winter gear are accepted throughout the winter at our Salvation Army Worship & Service Centers, where they are given to families in need as we meet with them.
All of the items we supply to local children are made available thanks to the generous support of our donors. You can help by bringing new or clean, gently-used coats and/or winter accessories (mittens, gloves, hats, snow boots, snow pants, etc.) to any Salvation Army Worship & Service Center.
The Salvation Army’s centers are a place for families in crisis to get help, including coats for their children. Visit any of our Twin Cities Worship & Service Centers to learn about meeting your child’s need for a coat. Supplies may be limited, so we recommend contacting the nearest location before stopping by to find out if supplies are available in the sizes you need. You may qualify for other assistance during your visit, which can be discussed in person with one of our case workers.
Volunteer needs vary by location, but each of our distributions do need volunteers to help us set up and a friendly face to assist parents as they choose the right coat for their child. See what positions are still available today.
Are you part of a local businesses, civic organization or church group interested in organizing a coat drive? Please contact your nearest Salvation Army Worship & Service Center to make arrangements to drop off any items you collect.
