Devotional: Just be yourself

Jun 16, 2020

By Major Paula Pyle, officer of the North Minneapolis Salvation Army

Some people have an issue called People Pleasing. They seek the approval of others in order to make themselves feel important.

However, God says that in order for us to live healthy lives, the decisions we make must be based on Him. If you please God first, then you will feel better about your decisions and yourself.

Although making tough decisions can result in us having to walk alone, we can be assured that God is walking right beside us. We can praise Him in both good times and bad.

‘The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.’ –Proverbs 18:10

Sadly, it can sometimes take sickness, or trauma, or a near-death experience to make us understand that we need to devote our lives to God. After all, none of us is without sin. No one

Thank God that we can renew our minds, come to our senses like the prodigal son, and return to our Father. He can restore us into a pure and righteous relationship with Him. He has cast all our sins into the sea of forgetfulness.

I try my best not to be a people pleaser. My goal is to please God. When anyone tries to convince otherwise, I start to pray and these people don’t worry me again.

Just like Daniel, you can maintain your relationship with God by allowing the Holy Spirit to help you to dare to be different. You could lose friends, be ridiculed, or be persecuted, but it’s alright. Jesus is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

It’s OK to just be yourself.
