Poem: Ode to Dorian from a prayer intercessor

Sep 6, 2019

Written by Major Paula Pyle

Editor’s note: Major Paula Pyle is an administrator at the North Minneapolis Salvation Army. She was inspired to write this poem because she grew up and served in the Caribbean islands for most of her life, and her husband, Major Robert Pyle, spent time serving in the Bahamas.

Now listen every boy, girl, man and woman.
To this sad story of hurricane Dorian.
She made her debut and became world famous.
For causing death and damage by being horrendous.

Taking her toll in the islands of Bahamas.
Smashing Abaco and Freeport, Grand Bahama.
Moving with strong winds but as sluggish as a snail.
Clearing paths, homes and lives in the movement of her trail.

Cries of “pray for us” and “Lord have mercy please”.
Were seen on social media from persons on their knees.
Seeking God's protection and hoping to be saved.
Through the rising dangerous waters, the storm they feared but braved.

As the death toll rose, we prayed for loss of life to cease.
But Dorian lost her memory, and stayed stagnant causing grief.
God heard us and she started to move one mile per hour.
Then two, three, four to nine, and her category got lower.

We thank You Lord for reminding us, to intercede each day.
In our Upper Rooms, we feel Your Power and daily humbly pray.
Be merciful, forgive us Lord, for sometimes not being prepared.
And thanks to You for shifting the storms, that many of us feared.

It makes us think of loved ones far, and those to eternity gone.
To keep us watchful, thankful and saved, for when Christ calls us home.
Let's live each day as our last, and tell the lost of God's love.
So they can have a chance to live, in Heaven up above.
