The First Friday of every June is National Donut Day, and we at The Salvation Army celebrate by giving out donuts to honor our long history of service to veterans. Salvation Army Donut Lassies, women volunteers from all across the United States and Europe, were sent to the front lines to aid soldiers in any way they could. They wrote letters, mended clothing, provided first aid, and eventually set up kitchens to make sweet rings of fried dough to lift the spirits of the soldiers fighting in WWI and WWII. 

Our team will visit Soldier's Field, Silver Lake Park, and Essex Park throughout the morning with our Salvation Army Canteen to distribute even more delicious Sweet House Bakery Donuts.
