Army serving tornado survivors across Midwest

May 29, 2019

The Salvation Army is busy serving countless survivors and relief workers after a spate of tornadoes ripped through cities across the Midwest throughout Memorial Day weekend.

Salvation Army disaster teams are on the ground in and around Dayton, Ohio, where an EF3 tornado caused widespread damage and injuries. Staff and volunteers aboard several Salvation Army mobile kitchens are serving food and water to survivors and relief workers in hard-hit local communities. (Learn more about our efforts in Ohio.)

Other disaster teams have rolled up their sleeves in Pendleton, Ind., where a tornado damaged at least 75 homes and cut power to more than 4,000 residents.

“We’re working to comfort and assist all the families who were affected by the tornado and downed power lines,” said Major Wolfe of The Salvation Army in nearby Anderson, Ind. “We’re praying that the power will be up again soon.” (Learn more about our service in Indiana.)

“We are on site supporting the efforts of the first responder teams of El Reno along with those from many neighboring communities,” said Major Stephen Ellis, area commander for The Salvation Army of Central Oklahoma.
