Feed the Need

Apr 27, 2021 | by Rebecca Snapp

On Saturday, April 24, only six weeks after conceptualizing the event, Evangel United Methodist Church held a food collection that resulted in a 200 foot long community food wall. All food was donated by approximately 450 individual people from across the Rochester community over the course of the day, while more than 50 volunteers built the wall of food.

Light45 provided live music, while local food trucks True Smoke BBQ and Azteca Mexican Tacos provided food to community members in attendance throughout the day.

"This event really surpassed all of our expectations," said Major Bob Mueller, Officer of the Rochester Corps, "We now have enough food collected to open up our food shelf to people once a week. We can't thank everyone enough for all they did to pull this off."

All food collected has been donated to The Salvation Army food shelf in Rochester, MN, located at 115 First Avenue NE. It is open to community members on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10am-4pm. Anyone with questions about the food shelf is encouraged to call 507-288-3663.
