Salvation Army preschool in St. Paul gets makeover

Sep 4, 2019

The Salvation Army’s preschool in St. Paul is getting a makeover.

Last month, construction began on new flooring, paint, lights, and a big beautiful mural at The Salvation Army King Child Development Center (CDC) – a preschool and childcare center attached to the West 7th Salvation Army in St. Paul. The project should be completed this month.

The upgrades will enhance learning at the CDC, which provides low-cost, high-quality preschool and childcare for kids ages 15 months to 5 years old.

“The new flooring will allow all of the spaces to be safe and cozy while also being easily maintained and cleaned,” said Lt. Mona Taube, leader of the West 7th Salvation Army in St. Paul. “The lights are LED energy-saving lights, which will help us to save money.”

The mural (pictured) covers an entire stretch of hallway. It was completed a few weeks ago by Penny Pinch, a renowned street artist based in Chicago. Other walls in the facility were painted by CDC staff members.

Taube is excited for children and staff members to enjoy the new space.

“For the first time in more than 10 years we are able to undertake this huge overhaul – all because of donor support,” Taube said.

The Salvation Army King Family Child Development Center opened in 1995 with a mission to give low-income families access to quality childcare. Several openings are available for preschoolers (ages 3–5) and toddlers (15 mos–3 years). To learn more, call 651-602-3018.
