10 reasons why we love the North Dakota State Fair
With opening day of the North Dakota State Fair on July 17 inching closer and closer, we couldn’t help but reflect on our excitement. What is it about the state fair that makes us smile from ear to ear as we plan our trip with friends and family? For some, it’s the thrill of sampling the newest deep fried foods, but we’ve heard others are more inclined to attend a concert.
What are we looking forward to? It was impossible for staff at The Salvation Army to pick one thing so we’re giving you ten reasons why we love the North Dakota State Fair.
1. Discounts that help others. At the top of our list, as you can imagine, we’re pumped that you can have an incredible day and help our hungry neighbors in need through the state fair’s 3rd annual food drive on Monday, July 20. All food donors who bring non-perishable food items to an admission gate will receive $1 off their ticket, courtesy of Pride of Dakota. The food will be distributed to six Salvation Army food pantries around North Dakota.
If you’re planning to come out and can spare a couple hours of your day, volunteers are still needed to help collect the food. To sign up for a two-hour shift or more, call Ashley at 701-838-8925 or sign up online.
2. They always bring in a line of performers that are spot-on.
3. That moment when your favorite artist comes on stage and your day-long wait was worth it.
4. It’s a perfect time to take fun family photos…or, you know, spend time with your family in general.
5. Who doesn’t like watching people willingly volunteer to ride bulls at the rodeo?
6. Did we mention the food?
7. All the rides you can handle, just don’t ride them immediately after downing that bucket of cheese curds.
8. The thrill of Enduro car races and watching them slide everywhere.
9. We can’t forget about the parade.
10. Forget America’s Got Talent, those of us in North Dakota know where our talent is: The Dakota Talent Show.
