Jul 6, 2015

The Salvation Army Northern Division is pleased to announce that our HeatShare program has won an award in conjunction with Xcel Energy and CenterPoint Energy.

The honor was awarded by the national Salvation Army for an outstanding partnership between the Northern Division and the two utility companies.

HeatShare award recipientsThe award was presented at the National Energy and Utility Affordability Coalition (NEUAC) conference in Baltimore, Maryland last week. Since 1982, HeatShare has provided utility assistance to over 130,000 families in Minnesota. The program is funded entirely through donations from the utility companies and their customers.

“We are so grateful to the utility companies for the support they have given us for more than three decades,” said Mike McGlone, HeatShare administrator. “Thanks to them and the generosity of their customers, tens of thousands of people have been able to safely stay in their homes.”

HeatShare not only helps pay for natural gas, electricity, propane, fuel oil and biomass, it also provides help with budget counseling, energy education and conservation techniques.
