Beyond the Boardroom: Williams washes cars
“Beyond the Boardroom” highlights the fundraising efforts and volunteer activities of Salvation Army board members who put their passion into action outside the boardroom walls.
John Williams likes to talk. As the outspoken afternoon host at WCCO 830 AM Radio, he seems to know everything about pretty much everything.
Everything except political predictions, that is. Earlier this year, the Twin Cities Salvation Army advisory board member made this vow to his radio listeners: “If Donald Trump wins the nomination, I’ll wash your camper.”
Williams made good on his promise July 22, the day after Trump was officially named the Republican nominee. Williams and a team of Salvation Army volunteers set up shop at Brambillas RV in Shakopee and spent the day washing dozens of cars, trucks, and RVs in exchange for donations.
“I did more than just squirt the hose – but not much more,” joked Williams, who broadcasted live from the event.
He and volunteers often turned the spray hoses on themselves, as daytime high temperatures flirted with 100 degrees.
Even hotter: The event raised more than $1,100 for the N. Lyndale Ave. Salvation Army in Minneapolis.
Special thanks to Chick-fil-A of Bloomington for supplying sandwiches, and to Salvation Army disaster volunteers for offering bottled water all day.
