Twin Cities Coats for Kids serves record number

Roseville, Minn – Thanks to generous donors, nearly 9,000 Twin Cities children have new winter coats, hats, mittens, and other accessories to keep them warm this winter.

Coats-for-Kids-2015-300x200The 30th annual Twin Cities Coats for Kids giveaway wrapped up at 6 p.m. yesterday, with almost every family able to find the sizes they needed for their children.

“This was a great event,” said Major Jeff Strickler, Twin Cities commander. “Our goal is to never have to send anyone home without a coat. We did run low on boys large and extra large sizes, but we were still able to serve a record number of people.”

Alerus Mortgage and its employees provided a generous $33,000 match, and KSTP hosted a phone bank that raised nearly$26,000. These efforts allowed us to purchase more new coats than ever before.

“We are grateful for the new coats we were able to purchase through the efforts of Alerus Mortgage and KSTP, and for the gently used coats that so many people donated,” Strickler said.

The 2015 Coats for Kids drive has ended, but you can make an online donation anytime.
